4 Things To Consider Before Renting A Dumpster

Posted on: 12 January 2017

Renting a dumpster is definitely something you need to consider if you are going to be doing a large renovation to your home that will require the dumping of many materials. This is also something to consider when cleaning out your home if you have large piles of junk, especially if the junk weighs a whole lot and won't fit in the standard garbage can that the city collects from your home once a week. When you are in need of renting a dumpster, here are four things you should consider:

Placement: The first thing you need to think about is where the dumpster is going to be placed. The dumpster has to be a certain number of feet from your home to prevent becoming a fire hazard, which will depend on your city. The dumpster will also have to be on stable ground to prevent tipping over. You also want to place it in an area where it will not be in the way where it can become a safety hazard. Keep in mind that a large dumpster rental cannot be placed underneath overhanging wires. It's important that you know where to place the dumpster before you rent it so that the dumpster rental company will know where to place it upon arrival.

Permit: If you are going to be placing the dumpster on the street because that is the safest placement option, you must first obtain a permit from the city that will allow you to place it there. If you place the dumpster on the street without a permit, you can receive a heavy fine from the city. On top of this, most dumpster rental companies will not place the dumpster on the street if you do not have proof of a permit.

Size: Always rent the next size up to what you think you will need. This way, you avoid the issue of going over the standard weight limit of the dumpster that you have rented. If this happens, you can be charged a fee from the dumpster rental company because it's dangerous to transport a dumpster that has more than it can hold inside of it.

Estimate: Finally, before you agree to a dumpster rental, it's important to get an estimate. Call the dumpster rental company to talk about the size that you need, how long you will need to use the dumpster, and when you will need them to pick up and drop off the dumpster. All of this is going to affect the rate that you are charged for the rental.

When you consider these four things before renting a dumpster, you can be sure that you end up renting a dumpster that is perfect for what you need it for.
